Borsa Italiana welcomes Enel's new €1 billion green bond on ExtraMOT PRO, the professional segment of ExtraMOT market dedicated to the listing of bonds, commercial papers and project bonds.

It provides for a single instalment repayment maturing on 21 July 2025, and the payment of a fixed-rate coupon of 1.5%. The issue price has been set at 98.565% and the effective yield at maturity is 1.736%.

The 1-billion-Euro bond is being included in Borsa Italiana's segment dedicated to green and/or social bonds, which was created to offer institutional and retail investors the opportunity to identify those instruments whose proceeds are used to finance projects with specific benefits or impacts of an environmental and/or social nature.

The net proceeds from the issue will be used to finance or refinance eligible Enel green projects in the renewables field, in networks, including smart grids, in sustainable mobility, smart lighting, energy efficiency and demand response initiatives.

Enel’s new issuance  becomes  another major supranational bond that enriches the list of securities for sustainable development on Borsa Italiana’s bond markets. It brings the Green and Social segment up to a total of 71 listed instruments.

Pietro Poletto, Head of the ETF and bond markets of the London Stock Exchange Group, commented:

"Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues are becoming increasingly important to investors worldwide. Indeed, they are regarded as fundamental in establishing their investment policies. Borsa Italiana, through the Green and Social segment, wished to offer an important tool to identify those bonds that finance environmental and/or social impact projects, aligning itself with international best practices. In recent years there has been a more significant expansion especially following the COP21, the Paris conference on climate change, and from climate agreements. We are happy to see that the segment is continuing to grow with the Enel bond and that Borsa Italiana’s markets are reaffirming their place as a point of reference for investors who are mindful of sustainable finance".
